Europe 2022-Travel Days 1-3

Thursday March 31, 2022
We left Columbus, Ohio at 10 pm after a several hour flight delay due to weather on the east coast. We missed our connection to Frankfurt that night so had to get a hotel by Dulles airport - we finally got there around 1 and settled to sleep by 130/2. There was breakfast at the hotel - Ryan and Greg ate in lobby and Kylie and I ate in the room. We got cleaned up and took an Uber to Kristi and John Slowinski’s house and got to meet baby Emma. So thankful they live by the airport and we’re home so we could spend the day with them and not at the airport! We hung out, had lunch and went out to dinner before they took us back to the airport! Our flight to Frankfurt (Friday April 1) was delayed about an hour but we finally got boarded and on the plane! Just as we were all resting and falling asleep they came by with dinner so we ate  a little (eating plane curry was not one Ryans best ideas 💩🤣) and then all got some sleep before a small breakfast. Once we landed it took awhile to get thru the giant airport - Customs check was quick and luggage was not. We had our luggage but no boosters until we saw an airport worker walking thru baggage claim with them while in the giant line for baggage help-he was our hero! Finding where to get our rental car was even more of a debacle-we got LOTS of steps in while dragging our luggage around. We finally found the rental desk in the “airport mall” and the kids and I went to McDonalds to get a snack for the road. We got our car (a red VW Golf wagon) and everything fit in the trunk! We hit the road to Waldmohr! We got to the Stillwell’s around 530 on Saturday, April 2 and the kids immediately got to playing and the adults immediately got to some German beer and pretzels! Lynn got GIANT pretzel sandwiches for dinner that were SO good!! We all powered through until “normal” Germany bedtime and slept great that night and didn’t have much jet lag! 👏

Bar

Today Kylie took a bar stool behind the counter - asked if I wanted to come to her bar. She was serving shots of grapefruit bubbly water with homemade paper umbrellas #quarantine2020

After watching the news of the mobs breaking into the Capital Building Greg said “mom, don’t these people know there’s still covid? I mean we wouldn’t just go to Washington DC because President Biden got elected” I hate that the kids are growing up watching so much drama and sadness on the news but I know that we can teach them to be better and do better and know that the world will be a better place 💕

Europe 2022 - Days 6-8 (Metz, Heidelberg & Waldmohr)

Tuesday April 5, 2022 Tuesdays rainy weather changed our plans but ultimately it was France day! We ended up driving in the rain to Metz, France for the day. Lynn and the kids and her babysitter Kelsey all come with us for the day. We really lucked out and the rain was either just misty or stopped while we were exploring. Once we found parking we walked thru the cobblestone streets until we found the Metz Cathedral and a cute indoor market. We ordered croissants and eclairs from a Patisserie for a morning snack. They were DELICIOUS 🤤 I am basically ruined for eating croissants back home now! We went into the Cathedral which reminded us of The Great Hall from Harry Potter. The cathedral was so insanely beautiful. The Cathedral in Metz is one of the most stained glass churches in the world!! There were so many intricate pieces everywhere you looked.  We found an Italian restaurant for lunch thanks to Kelsey’s French skills! It was soooo good! I had one of the best salads  with ...
